"Forest School is an inspirational process that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self-esteem, through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland or natural environment with trees."
Forest School Association (FSA)

In 2020, an unused space in the school grounds began to take shape as a dedicated Forest School area. In 4 short years, we are so proud to show off the hard work and perseverance of our fully qualified Forest School leaders, Mr Matthew Perkins and Mrs Georgia Hearn.

The Friends of Kennington Academy purchased a large bell tent for the area along with beautiful bean bags and a stove, meaning we can hold Forest School sessions whatever the weather. Every December, we organise a magical winter wonderland with a snow machine, fire and toasted marshmallows, stories in the tent and hot chocolate.

The area is maintained by the children, including tree maintenance, tree planting, developing storage areas for fire wood and keeping the area tidy. The children have cleared an old pond area in readiness for a new school allotment where they will be able to plant, nurture and harvest fruit and vegetables to use in forest school.

Our leaders ensure that every child visits the Forest School every term, following well planned out sessions to develop forest skills. These may be knife skills, using an axe safely, ropes and knots and using the environment to create natural arts and crafts including Christmas table decorations and wreaths.

In November 2023, the school won a Green Award for the monumental efforts in Forest school.
